Taryn Sharpe, giornalista reinventatasi critico gastronomico, e il suo assistente e fotografo George Haske sono inviati in missione in Francia per redigere un reportage sull'apertura del nuovo e più chiacchierato ristorante all'ultimo grido di Parigi, Le Roi Soleil. Giunti sul luogo, scoprono che il famoso chef del ristorante è deceduto in circostanze sospette. Stranamente, la polizia chiude il caso come suicidio e si rifiuta di indagare più a fondo. Il proprietario del ristorante (un vecchio amico di Taryn) è convinto che il suo divo dei fornelli sia invece stato assassinato e supplica George di stanare il colpevole.
